Overall Function:
Environmental Defense Fund is seeking to hire a Program Associate for our North Carolina office to further the goals of the Climate & Air program in North Carolina and the Southeast by participating in program work and providing administrative support.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply excellent organizational, communication, and strategic skills to further specific program goals, including the following activities:
• Work with C&A program staff in coordinating activities related to key North Carolina, as well as Southeast U.S. campaigns including, but not limited to energy efficiency/rate restructuring, climate change, and air quality impacts.
• Support the above campaigns through conducting research, creating outreach materials, writing reports, writing grant proposals, making presentations and performing other activities as needed. Assist program staff in the development of selected items such as position statements, agency comments, joint proposals, press releases, op-eds and other media related materials and action alerts.
• Assist program staff in working with colleagues outside Environmental Defense Fund, including staff from other environmental organizations and consultants, in organizing meetings and projects.
• Assist in the development and production of project materials such as videos, case studies, briefing books, brochures, reports, testimony, speeches, power point and other visual presentations, including assistance in design, writing, editing, and reproduction.
• Represent Environmental Defense Fund at meetings, as appropriate.
• Provide administrative support i.e., schedule and organize meetings, conference calls, travel arrangements, document preparation, photocopy, and fax to C&A program staff.
• Provide budget support to C&A program staff on program objectives and activities.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, including ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Lotus Notes, PowerPoint, and Excel and familiarity with Internet research
• Ability to communicate effectively with federal agencies, state and local agencies, environmental organizations and consultants
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively with program staff from many levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated research and writing skills
• An intelligent, self-starter capable of working independently with light supervision
