National Hip-Hop Political Convention (Las Vegas)
August 1, 2008, 9:00 am
This convention hopes to be one of the biggest to date. With the 2008 Presidential Elections just months following, there is an opportunity for the Hip Hop community to impact the elections through the mobilization of thousands of progressive youth ready to demand access and justice.
The bi-annual National Hip Hop Political Convention (NHHPC) is a meeting where activists, organizers, artists, writers, journalists, scholars, and students from across the country develop and evolve the National Hip-Hop Political Agenda, receive and participate in trainings, discussions, workshops, get inspired and build infrastructure for the hip hop political movement. The (NHHPC) attracts many people who are discouraged and motivated, apathetic and active, young and old, using hip hop culture as a common and familiar medium.
The National Hip Hop Political Convention is a hybrid between the Democratic National Convention and the National Black Political Convention models. The National Hip Hop Political Agenda is a document that states the political demands and work areas for the entire political hip hop community. The NHHPC is multi-generation and multi-ethnic gathering. It is a working gathering where attendees will caucus, propose direction, and debate implementation of a National Political Agenda.
