Maryam - at - Future5000 - dot - com Maryam is a poet/writer, musician, teacher, a practicing Muslim, daughter of a Muslim father and Catholic mother, an eager student of life, and the 10th child born to refugees of war. She lives in a cream-colored house in Oakland, CA where she appreciates her two lemon trees in the backyard, rocking in her hammock to the sounds of everything from Joni Mitchell to Big L and has been known to make mac & cheese from scratch. She is tirelessly devoted to the preservation of culture and the oral history of the Cham people and is currently working on a collection of poems focusing on her matriarchal ancestors. Every night Maryam drinks a cup of peppermint tea and falls asleep next to a kitten named Sharif. Meow!
